Description

The Sanctuary, Sandown is an attractive four storey town house situated in a pleasant tree lined street within 150 metres of the beach and High Street, with easy access to a wide variety of facilities, including shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. Built in 2012, the property is beautifully furnished and equipped to a very high standard with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 2 sitting rooms. The top floor sitting room has the added attraction of a gorgeous roof terrace offering a stunning panorama of rural and sea views. The enclosed, sunny, south facing garden is perfect for BBQs and children's play. The extra space and bathrooms make the Sanctuary ideal for larger families looking to holiday together.

Sandown is a lovely destination for a seaside holiday, with safe waters, miles of soft golden sands and an entertaining pleasure pier. The Esplanade has seaside cafes, souvenir and beach shops together with a number of restaurants all with glorious sea views. The pier is a year-round destination in its own right with traditional pier amusements together with bumper cars, crazy golf, bowling, a soft play area for little ones and, in summer, great fishing off the pier end.

The beach has lifeguards in summer and a range of hire outlets, with everything from deck chairs, sun lounges and windbreaks, through to sea fishing kayaks, surfboards, pedalos and long board skateboards. There is a surfing school and a water sport centre that offers a range of tuition from kite surfing to sailing. The High Street runs parallel to the seafront esplanade giving easy access to a selection of tourist and arty shops, together with banks, pubs, cafes, restaurants and major supermarket chains. Sandown's well equipped leisure centre has an indoor pool, health suite, fitness classes and gym.

Additional Sandown attractions are its popular 18 hole golf course, Dinosaur Isle with its life size models and Isle of Wight Zoo famous for its Tiger Sanctuary. Along the seafront towards Dinosaur Isle there is a pitch and put, a bowling green and large play park with skateboard ramps, basketball courts, football pitch, climbing wall and duck pond.

The Sanctuary is a 10 minute walk from Sandown train station. Within 100 metres of the property there are bus stops with regular services to the beach resorts of Ryde and Shanklin and, in the season, two open top bus services which provide a delightful extra way to explore the Island's beautiful scenery.

Sandown Town

Sandown sits on the Southern coast of the Isle of Wight, sheltered in a beautiful bay, and is famed for its long stretches of golden sandy beach and the traditional British seafront and pier.

Sandown beach won the 'Beach of the Year' in the BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards in 2019. They called it a "traditional bucket and spade beach on the east coast of the island with miles of golden sand, pier and eclectic seafront – and just a short walk to peaceful, fossil-rich cliffs and stunning coastal wildlife.".

You can relax and spend quality time strolling along Sandown Beach followed by an ice cream or refreshments at one of the licenced beach cafes.

The towns main beach stretches all the way along the esplanade where it meets with Yaverland Beach, which is regarded as one of the Isle of Wight’s best beaches.

Yaverland is very popular for water sports, and there are a number of local water sports centres from which you can test your skills at windsurfing, kayaking or many other activities.

With one of the highest concentrations of dinosaur fossils anywhere in the world, the Isle of Wight has been dubbed "Dinosaur Island".

The area around Sandown Bay is a fun place for fossil hunting, so with a keen eye you could be leaving with a very special, very old souvenir.

You can also visit the Dinosaur museum to explore more of the Isle of Wight’s dinosaur history.

One of the town’s most well-known features is Sandown Pier.

There is a range of traditional amusements and arcade games, with bowling, crazy golf and cafes to keep adults and children entertained for hours.

Further along the seafront the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary; the Island’s leading animal attraction, with everything from Lions and Tigers to Meerkats and Monkeys, and a short distance outside of Sandown town is Amazon World which also has a huge range of animals.

Being a traditional British seaside destination there is no shortage of places to grab an ice cream and snacks along the seafront in Sandown, but there is also plenty of choice for places to eat elsewhere in the town.

There are some good pubs and restaurants selling a range of different cuisines, and if you travel just outside of the town there are also a number of highly respected eateries, such as the Garlic Farm Cafe at Newchurch.

Sandown hosts one of the oldest carnivals which dates back to 1889, and it is also one of the most well-known on the Isle of Wight.

With day processions and an illuminated evening event the Sandown carnival usually takes place during the months of July and August.

With its rich dinosaur and fossil hunting territories there are also a number of Fossil Hunts taking place regularly at Sandown.

Sandown has excellent bus and train services and makes an excellent base for a visit to the Isle of Wight.

Bus services can take you either northwards to Brading and Ryde, south to Shanklin and Ventnor, or across the Island to Godshill, Newport and Cowes, whilst the Island Line train services run to the neighbouring town of Shanklin or Northwards to Ryde where they connect with passenger ferry services to Portsmouth.

The Sanctuary provides everything you'll need for a relaxing, comfortable stay..& more! From the welcoming complimentary bottle of wine & traditional IOW shortbread, to the fantastic roof top garden views! The thoughtful simple caring touches really help, such as the WiFi passwords & emergency contacts & all info set out in the folder..no guesswork & looking up needed! the leaflets on places to visit, the well stocked & labelled kitchen - items such as food bags, cling film & tin foil, washing up & hand wash (provided in all bathrooms too + loo tolls), washing machine & dishwasher detergents, kitchen paper & tea/coffee/sugar & milk sachets to use in the canisters, & the games, books, dvd's, games console +games, all helped greatly :)) The furnishings & beds are of good quality, relaxing & comfortable too. I feel that Island Holiday Homes have really thought about the comfort of thier guests as the Sanctuary was a fantastic place to stay

The house provided a perfect vacation stay for three generations of family. The location of the house was perfect for Sandown and was only a 2 1/2 minute walk to the beach. There is sufficient parking off road for 1 large car and on street parking available for any additional visitors. The house was very well presented and very clean and tidy. There was plenty of cutlery, plates and glasses etc and a washing machine and dishwasher. The view from the roof terrace was fantastic and the teenage kids made the most of the games consul and second lounge area in the roof. Would definitely try and stay here again if we head back to the Island.
