Ryde Town

Ryde is the largest town on the Isle of Wight, and with its prominent position along the seafront and hovercraft and passenger ferry links it is little wonder it is often referred to as “The Gateway to the Island”.

In addition to an expanse of sandy beaches which stretch right along the town, Ryde has a great selection of boutique shops, museums and galleries for you to visit along with lots of other things to see and do along its esplanade.

Ryde offers a great variety of things to do which will interest all ages, not least of which are the hovercraft and catamaran ferry from which you can travel to and from the mainland.

Hovertravel are the world’s oldest hovercraft operator and operate the last remaining hovercraft passenger service in Britain, whereas a trip on the Wightlink catamaran service will take you down Ryde’s recently restored early 19th century pier, which carries both vehicular traffic and train services.

Head along Ryde esplanade and you will encounter a number of great places for family entertainment, including the Superbowl and LaserQuest.

Further along there is a fun fair for young children and a very popular canoe lake which leads on to Ryde’s sandy beaches.

At low tide the sea goes out a long way making it a popular place for sports and outdoor activities, and a regular venue for beach soccer tournaments.

This property is in a good location close to the ferry terminal which is around 2 miles away. It is quite small but ideal for a couple, it does sleep 4 but I wouldn't recommend it unless you are only using it to sleep, there are no wardrobes and very little hanging space. Hot water is very limited so if you like a bath you'll get 2 inches of hot water and that's it, the shower upstairs is electric so no issues there. The location is quiet however there is quite a bit of noise from the kids at little Canada on occasions but if you're out all day then no problem, the noise tends to quieten down by 9pm. The road to the property is very uneven so drive slowly. Less than a mile away is a Tesco express, Chinese takeaway, Indian takeaway and fish and chips, we only used the Indian called balti king which was nice and they deliver for 99p. The Sloop inn, also less than a mile away is good and does carvery everyday but remember to input your cars reg number on the machine just inside the pub. I have mobility issues but found no problem with the property and the road to the businesses mentioned is flat. If you have a dog there is a small garden round the back which is grassed or you can walk about around the front of the property which overlooks the creek. Plenty of pots, pans, glasses and cutlery etc and everything easy to use. There is no washing machine but this didn't bother us. Plenty of tea, coffee and a small milk was left as well as a packet of biscuits. Beds were comfortable for us but everyone is different, think they were foam mattresses but not memory foam, upstairs bedroom gets very warm and is very light first thing in the morning, there is a fan at the property, downstairs bedroom is a lot cooler. Overall a nice little property in a convenient location.
