Location Hightlights

Bembridge Village, located at the easternmost point of the Isle of Wight, sits behind the stunning headland of Culver. It is often claimed to be the largest village in England, with a population of around 4,000 residents.

Stretching across much of the island’s eastern tip, Bembridge encompasses its harbour, three distinct beaches, and even has its own airport.

In 2019, Bembridge was awarded 'Village of the Year' by BBC Countryfile Magazine, praised for its “wonderful coastal setting with a pier and lifeboat station, plus a vibrant community with independent shops, cafés, and restaurants.” With three beautiful beaches and the white cliffs of Culver Down nearby, Bembridge offers the perfect base for coastal exploration.

Many of the activities in Bembridge revolve around the sea. Its three beaches—Lane End, the Ledge, and Bembridge Beach—are popular for beachcombing, rock pool adventures, and their breathtaking coastal views. Bembridge’s substantial harbour makes it a popular sailing destination.

On Lane End Beach, you'll find the striking Bembridge Lifeboat Station, an iconic timber structure built in 2010, which has become one of the Isle of Wight’s most photographed landmarks.

Another notable landmark is Bembridge Windmill, located just outside the village and maintained by the National Trust. This historic windmill is one of the island’s most recognizable structures.

Nearby, Culver Down offers dramatic white cliffs, visible from Sandown Bay to Shanklin. This chalk down is rich in wildlife and features remnants of military history, including a fort, a monument, and a World War II anti-aircraft battery. The stunning Whitecliff Bay, tucked beneath Culver, is a sheltered cove well worth a visit and is best accessed through Whitecliff Bay Holiday Park.

In the heart of Bembridge, you’ll find an array of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants, many of which serve locally caught fish. Bembridge is home to several well-regarded eateries, and for traditional fare, its pubs offer a great selection of classic English dishes.

Frequent bus services connect Bembridge with the nearby towns of Ryde and Newport, making it easy to explore the surrounding areas.

Thanks so much for letting me stay in your lovely home. The island specific artwork in the house is a lovely touch, as was the local cheese treats left for me in the fridge! What a great touch. The location is perfect, with a gorgeous walk down to a beautiful beach and a great ramble to such a cute village, with everything I needed.

Coastal Cottage has a perfect location in Bembridge - about 5 minutes' walk down the lanes to a quiet stretch of the beach between the harbour and the lifeboat station, and less than that in the other direction to the village centre with the Co-op, restaurants, pub, Lagom coffee and the fabulous Hot Box Bakery. It's great value for that alone. The house is not perfect - the kitchen is well-equipped but dark and has an awkward dog-leg design, some of the windows and doors look a bit old, and we'd have liked bigger, squashier sofas. But the positives certainly outweigh the negatives. The bedrooms are nicely decorated and comfy, and there's a modern main bathroom and a separate shower room with a second toilet. The garden is spacious, has a big table and chairs and other benches, has both shady and sunny areas almost all day so is perfect for both relaxing and drying wet beach stuff (we made much use of the rotary washing line), and is fully enclosed with high fences/hedges so is great for safely letting the dog out. We arrived to Prosecco and a friendly note from the owners, and felt very welcome.
