Cowes

Home to the oldest and largest sailing regatta in the world, Cowes is the Isle of Wight's sailing capital and one of Britain's most iconic seaside towns. Overlooking the Solent, it combines a rich maritime heritage with a lively atmosphere, making it a popular destination throughout the year.

Take a stroll along the bustling High Street, where you'll find independent boutiques, specialist yachting outfitters, galleries and artisan food shops. Relax at a pavement café, enjoy lunch overlooking the harbour, or spend the evening watching yachts sail across the Solent while dining in one of the town's many pubs and restaurants.

Food and Drink

Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a memorable dining experience, Cowes offers something for every taste and budget. Choose from cosy cafés, traditional pubs, wine bars and waterfront restaurants serving everything from fresh local seafood and classic fish and chips to gourmet burgers, tapas, pizza and international cuisine.

Breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea, Sunday roasts and locally made sweet treats are all on the menu. You'll also discover artisan bakeries, delicatessens and shops selling Island-produced cheeses, wines, beers and spirits.

Shopping

Cowes is a great place to browse, whether you're searching for sailing equipment, fashion or local gifts. The High Street is lined with independent retailers offering nautical clothing, homeware, jewellery, artwork and locally produced food and drink.

Visitors can also stock up on artisan bread, cheeses, preserves and other Isle of Wight specialities, while practical essentials are easily found in the town's supermarkets and convenience stores.

Things to Do

Cowes offers far more than sailing. Wander along the picturesque seafront and enjoy panoramic views across the Solent, relax on the beach or take in the fresh sea air from the Esplanade.

Visit the town's maritime museum to discover Cowes' fascinating sailing history, browse local galleries showcasing Island artists, or spend time in Northwood Park, a peaceful green space just a short walk from the town centre.

During the summer months, Cowes comes alive with sailing events and regattas, attracting competitors and spectators from around the world. Throughout the year, the marina and waterfront provide an ever-changing backdrop of yachts, racing boats and visiting vessels.

Whether you're enjoying a leisurely lunch by the harbour, exploring the independent shops or simply watching life on the water, Cowes offers a distinctive blend of maritime heritage, coastal charm and relaxed seaside living that keeps visitors returning year after year.
